Pro Review is a team of Chartered Engineers who have come together with a shared belief that there is a better way to do peer reviews.
Our mission is to provide high quality, confidential and consistent civil and structural engineering peer reviews throughout New Zealand.
Stay Incontrol of your Project Delivery - Choose Experienced, Dedicated Peer Reviewers.
United by a shared belief that good design mitigates risk, we strive to add value by looking at ways to help our clients achieve a better outcome. Drawing on considerable experience, we contribute pragmatic, cutting-edge solutions to help move your project forward as cost effectively as possible.
We are a team of Chartered Engineers that deliver a secure, reliable and transparent review process. Always striving to add value, we take a pragmatic approach to the review process, focus on solutions and keep the big picture in mind.
We understand that for a project to be successful it not only needs to be technically correct, it also needs to be delivered on time. As we only focus on review work, our engineers will not be taken away to work on more “important” design work and can dedicate their time specifically to your project.
Why choose Pro Review
We understand the importance of confidentiality in the peer review process. Design firms often hand over drawings, calculations, specifications and spreadsheets that form part of the companies intellectual property (IP) that can result in a loss of competitive advantage if it falls into the wrong hands.
For every peer review project, Pro Review will sign a Non Disclosure Agreement (NDA) with the design agency to protect their IP. Additional measures are also put in place such as sealed project folders that can only be accessed by the reviewer, and are locked and archived once the project is complete.
There are often a lot of unknowns in the peer review process that can result in additional project risk. Some of these unknowns can be:
- Who will be peer reviewing the work?
- What will they focus on?
How detailed will they be?
- Do they have a different design philosophy?
At Pro Review we address these issues by following industry standard peer review guidelines such as Engineering NZ’s. This adds consistency to the process as both the designer and reviewer will have access to the guidelines.
To further reduce risk, a staged review process can be implemented. In this case, reviews are undertaken at several stages throughout the design process so that there are no surprises when it comes to Building Consent Lodgement. Reviews are usually carried out during the following stages:
- Concept/ Preliminary Design
- 70% Design
- 100% Design
New Zealand and international peer review guidelines require the Review Engineer to have at least equal experience and technical capability as the designer of the work being reviewed. Unfortunately we have found that this is not always the case, and graduate and intermediate engineers often end up doing the peer review with little oversight from senior engineers.
At Pro Review all of our reviewers are Chartered Engineers with extensive experience not only in peer reviews but also in design work.
“Two heads are better than one, not because either is infallible, but because they are unlikely to go wrong in the same direction.” – C.S. Lewis
By getting involved early in the design process and agreeing to the concept, Pro Review can reduce the risk of time delays and design changes later on. We can also offer input and suggestions relating to technical aspects of the design.
